Northside Baptist Church receives members in one of three ways:
- BAPTISM: For a person who has been saved by accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and desires to obey Christ by being scripturally baptized by immersion.
- LETTER FROM ANOTHER BAPTIST CHURCH: For a person who is saved, has been baptized by immersion after he was saved, and is a member in good standing of another Baptist church which will transfer him/her by letter to Northside.
- STATEMENT OF FAITH: For a person who is saved and has been baptized by immersion after he was saved, but is not a member of another Baptist church.
One of our greatest privileges is to talk to you about the Lord Jesus and His Work through Northside Baptist Church. Any member of our Staff or one of our Deacons or Sunday School teachers will be pleased to talk with you about your relationship to the Lord or try to answer any questions you have about the church. We do not have all the answers, but believe we can point you to the One who does.
How Can I Become a Believer in Jesus Christ?
Repent (Luke 13:3,5)
Jesus Christ himself said in Luke that "Unless you repent, you will perish." Jesus thought that this was so important that He said it twice (verse 3 and again in verse 5). Whenever Jesus says something once - it's important. When He says it twice, it's very important.
So what does it mean to repent. Repentance simply means to stop going in one direction and start going in another direction.
Believe (Acts 16:31)
Did you know that only once in the Bible is the question asked - "What must I do to be saved". The answer to the question is given by Paul, who said "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved."
What does it mean to believe? The word "believe" in the greek is literally translated "faith". A better way to translate Paul's answer is to say "Faith on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved." What's the difference? The answer is simple: anyone can believe that Jesus in the Son of God - but that doesn't mean that everyone who believes it will be saved. The bible says that "even the demons believe - and tremble." Do you think that demons will go to heaven! Certainly not!
What Paul meant is that we must have faith in Christ - simple belief is not enough. To illustrate the point - imagine that you want to go on a trip. You get a ticket on a plane and go to the airport. The whole way to the airport you talk about how you believe that the plane can take you where you want to go. Will that get you there? No - you have to actually get on the plane for the trip - putting faith in the plane, the pilot and the makers of the airplane that you will arrive safely.
Faith in Christ is the same way. It is not enough to talk about it or believe in it - you have to have faith.
Receive (John 1:12)
Question: If I put a dollar bill in my hand and offer it to you - when will it become yours?
Answer: Not until you take it.
The writer of John makes the same point. Salvation is made available through Christ - but it is up to you to make the decision to step forward and receive Christ. It's that simple.
Confess (Romans 10:9-10)
Paul writes in Romans that coming to Christ is very simple. If we confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord, and believe (there's that word that translates "faith" again) in our hearts that God hath raised Him from the dead, we can be saved.
So the question is really this: Are you willing to repent from you sins, place your faith in Christ, and receive His free gift of salvation. If you are - please pray where you are righ now the following prayer.
Lord Jesus, I come to you because you have found me.
I confess to you that I am a sinner and need you.
Right now, I repent of my sins and trust you for eternal salvation.
I receive you into my heart and ask you to forgive me of all my sins.
Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. Amen.
By praying that prayer, you come to God in humility and honor. If you meant it with as much as you can understand - you are now a member of the family of God. We welcome you and rejoice with you in your new life in Christ. Please read II Corinthians 5:17.
